Carers in Devon can now sign up to email updates and visit a new webpage to find the latest information on the forthcoming new arrangements for carers' services in the county.

From Thursday 1 October, carers' assessments, reviews and the Carers Helpline will be brought in-house to be delivered directly by us. Peer support services and carer ambassador services will be recommissioned with new contracts.

Surveys mark next step for proposed Boniface Trail

Specialist surveys will be carried out on the A377 between Crediton and Newton St Cyres in September to help develop more detailed plans for the proposed Boniface Trail.

The trail, which was endorsed by our Cabinet in January, proposes a 12km walking and cycling route that would link Crediton Railway Station with Exeter St David's, serving the communities of Smallbrook, Newton St Cyres and Cowley.

Energy regulator Ofgem has announced that the energy price cap will increase by four per cent from October. For a typical household on a standard variable tariff, this could add around £60 a year to energy bills, at a time when many families are already feeling the pressure of higher living costs.

Know Your Numbers! Week marks successful one year anniversary of library blood pressure monitor loan scheme

Blood Pressure UK's annual campaign, Know Your Numbers Week, runs from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 September 2026 and aims to reach those who have high blood pressure and don't know it, so they can get the treatment and support they need to bring it under control. The campaign marks one year since the launch of a blood pressure monitor loan scheme in Devon's libraries.

Work begins on Barnstaple station interchange improvements

Passengers using Barnstaple Railway Station are set to benefit from a series of improvements designed to make changing between buses and trains easier, safer and more convenient.

Work will begin on the Barnstaple Railway Station Bus Integration Enhancements scheme on Monday 14 September, creating a more welcoming and accessible transport interchange while helping to improve connections between public transport services.

Free festival brings Blackdown Hills history to life

A nine-day festival exploring the archaeology and history of the Blackdown Hills is set to open this month, offering free guided walks, workshops and tours across the Devon and Somerset border country.

The Blackdown Hills Festival of Heritage will run from Friday 11 September to Saturday 19 September as part of Heritage Open Days, the annual nationwide celebration of history and culture.

Learn Devon launches its latest free adult education courses

Learn Devon's latest programme of free adult education courses is getting underway across Devon this month.

Around 200 courses are available through Learn Devon, which is Devon County Council's adult education service.

The free courses aim to help adults in the county develop skills for work, whether it's to change job or progress in their current careers.

They include English, Maths, Digital Skills and IT, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), as well as Skills and Development, Community and Engagement.

Overnight closures planned on the A380 between Eagle Farm and Splatford Split

Overnight maintenance work will be carried out on the A380 from Monday 14 September.

The essential work is scheduled to take place overnight for four nights from Monday 14 September to Thursday 17 September. This includes re-tensioning safety barriers, line marking, grass cutting, gully emptying and joint seal repairs.

Work will be carried out each night from 8pm to 6am. During these hours, the A380 will be closed in both directions between Eagle Farm and Splatford Split.
